IOTA – A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota for Paul Doucet, 94, who died Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at 5:55 a.m. at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Mr. Doucet was a native and lifelong resident of Iota. He honorably served his country in the US Army Air Corp from 1941 and was discharged in 1945 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a member of American Legion Post #371 in Iota, Woodmen of the World, Knights of Columbus, Serra Club, Iota IF Club, and First Derrick Camping Club. He was a scout leader and volunteer fireman in Iota, volunteered at American Legion Hospital in Jennings as a Blue Angel where he received his ten-year pin and served St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota as a lector, Eucharistic minister and parish council member. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who shared his faith with his family and many in the Iota community.
Fr. Jude Thierry, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota, will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours begin today, Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will resume on Thursday from 8-10:45 a.m. A rosary will be recited today, Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum.
Mr. Paul is survived by his wife of 68 years, Agnes Thevis Doucet of Iota; two daughters, Theresa D. (Edward) Caruso of Groveland, Mass., and Lucy D. (Conrad) Tworek of Ione, Oreg.; five sons, Richard Doucet and his companion, Corliss, of Iota, Wayne (Susie) Doucet of Iota, Ronnie (Beth) Doucet of Soldotna, Alaska, Tony (Claire) Doucet of Mowata, Bill (Dorothy) Doucet of Slaughter; 14 grandchildren, Eddie and Michael Caruso, Ben and Jennifer Doucet, Marie, Katie and Aaron Tworek, Krystal and Eric Doucet, Jim, Raissa and Josh Randall, Les Bean and Tammy Bourgeois; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Darbus and Clemence LeDoux Doucet; four sisters, Lucy Louviere, Lula Fontenot, Helen Prudhomme and Cecile Reed; and three brothers, Harry, Phillip and Bernis Doucet.
