IOTA – A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota for Paul Doucet, 94, who died Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at 5:55 a.m. at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.

Mr. Doucet was a native and lifelong resident of Iota. He honorably served his country in the US Army Air Corp from 1941 and was discharged in 1945 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a member of American Legion Post #371 in Iota, Woodmen of the World, Knights of Columbus, Serra Club, Iota IF Club, and First Derrick Camping Club. He was a scout leader and volunteer fireman in Iota, volunteered at American Legion Hospital in Jennings as a Blue Angel where he received his ten-year pin and served St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota as a lector, Eucharistic minister and parish council member. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who shared his faith with his family and many in the Iota community.

Fr. Jude Thierry, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota, will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours begin today, Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will resume on Thursday from 8-10:45 a.m. A rosary will be recited today, Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum.

Mr. Paul is survived by his wife of 68 years, Agnes Thevis Doucet of Iota; two daughters, Theresa D. (Edward) Caruso of Groveland, Mass., and Lucy D. (Conrad) Tworek of Ione, Oreg.; five sons, Richard Doucet and his companion, Corliss, of Iota, Wayne (Susie) Doucet of Iota, Ronnie (Beth) Doucet of Soldotna, Alaska, Tony (Claire) Doucet of Mowata, Bill (Dorothy) Doucet of Slaughter; 14 grandchildren, Eddie and Michael Caruso, Ben and Jennifer Doucet, Marie, Katie and Aaron Tworek, Krystal and Eric Doucet, Jim, Raissa and Josh Randall, Les Bean and Tammy Bourgeois; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Darbus and Clemence LeDoux Doucet; four sisters, Lucy Louviere, Lula Fontenot, Helen Prudhomme and Cecile Reed; and three brothers, Harry, Phillip and Bernis Doucet.

Funeral services for Mr. Daniel E. Broussard, 78, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, in St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Rev. Babasino Fernandes officiating.

Entombment will be in St. Lawrence Church Mausoleum under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings.

Funeral home visitation will be from 2:30-9 p.m. today, Friday, and will resume at 8 a.m. Saturday until time of services.

A rosary, led by Deacon Mike Tramel, will be recited at 6 p.m. today, Friday, in the funeral home chapel.

Mr. Broussard died at 2:42 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013 in Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Broussard was a resident of Jennings for 33 years, moving here from Lafayette.  He was a retired consultant in the oil industry. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Les Bon Amie Camping Club and the Pachyderm Club. He loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Barbara Daigle Broussard of Jennings; one daughter, Cynthia Broussard of Jennings; four sons, Michael Broussard of Lafayette, David Broussard of Evangeline, Danny (Stephanie) Broussard of Hathaway and Brent (Kelly) Broussard of Hathaway; two sisters, Agnes (Dennis) Lemaire of Kaplan and Nolia (Bill) Luedke of Crocket, Texas; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene Hazard and Beulah Vincent Broussard; one sister, Belle Hundley; and one brother, Lee Broussard.

Funeral services for Don Morris Williams Jr., 58, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, in David James and Rosa W. Fondel Church Chapel at Semien-Lewis Mortuary. Rev. Gerald Perkins will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday in the church chapel. Military honors will be accorded at 10:30 a.m. by the James O. Hall  Post 19 of the American Legion in the chapel.

Burial will be in Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Cemetery, with  military honors by a  squad from Keesler Air Force Base, under direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings.

Mr. Williams entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, as a result of a automobile accident. He was employed as an electrician at Dow Chemical in Baton Rouge. He recieved an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his daughter and son, Kimberly Williams of Lake Charles and Christopher Isaac Williams  of Thibodeaux; two sisters, Mrs. Wanda Jones and Mrs. Cynthia  Gail (Sterling) Lavigne, both of Jennings; four brothers, Ronald K. (Gaynell) Williams Sr. of Houston, Texas, Reginald K. Williams of Lake Charles and Ricardo C. (Geraldine) Williams and Rico Renaldo Williams, both of Jennings; and his companion, Mrs. Martha Williams of Thibodeaux.

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family and friends of Sylvia June Henry announce her passing from this life on Dec. 21, 2013, at the age of 84.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at 10 a.m. with Father Charles McMillin officiating her Mass. Burial will follow in Our Lady Seven Dolors Cemetery in Welsh.

Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings today, Sunday, Dec. 22 from 4-8 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday, Dec. 23 at 8 a.m. with a rosary recited at 8:30 a.m. by Mrs. Betty LeGros.

Sylvia was born in Basile to the late Norris Joseph Veronie and the late Sedonie Johnson Veronie on Dec. 30, 1928. She was a hairdresser for 18 years. Sylvia was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a faithful member Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Welsh and a Eucharistic Minister. She liked to read and watch TV. She enjoyed cooking and playing cards. Sylvia loved visiting and entertaining her friends and family. She especially loved the time she spent with her beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Sylvia June is survived by her daughters, Dee Dee Henry (Charles) Savoy of Jennings and Beth Henry (Michael) Hebert of Welsh; one brother, Verlin J. (Pam) Veronie of Conroe, Texas; her five grandchildren, Tom (Amy) Gaspard, Kristie Gaspard (Corey)Deville, Julie Hebert (Robbie) Ortego, Jennie Hebert and Justin Hebert; and her seven great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Anna, Brooke and Jared Gaspard, Alec and Halle Ortego and Gavin Deville.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Norris and Sedonie Johnson Veronie; her husband, Ettia John Henry; and one brother, Humert Veronie.

KINDER – Reverend Wade Lormand, 76, passed away on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Kingsfarm Pentecostal Church. Rev. Steve Haymon, Rev. A.A. Haymon Jr. and Rev. Phillip North will officiate. Burial will follow in Jessie Johnson Cemetery with Rev. Kingston and Rev. Ebarb officiating.

Visitation will begin today, Sunday, Dec. 22, at Kingsfarm Pentecostal Church from 4-9 p.m. and will continue on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

He was a native of Kinder and Evangeline and was a resident of Many at the time of his passing. He will be remembered by his ministry as a Pentecostal preacher for over 50 years, and also for the music he enjoyed listening to and playing. He also built many churches during his ministry. Other hobbies he enjoyed include fishing, traveling and motorcycles. Brother Wade will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Gwen Lormand of Many; six children, Jonette (Bryan) Louviere of Roanoke, Paula (Pastor Clifton) LeJeune of Jennings, Terri (Shane) Romero of Welsh, Laura (Thomas) Guinn of Jennings, and Aaron Desormeaux of Lafayette; two stepchildren, Stanley (Kim) Cook of Many and Wendall (Tracy) Cook of Pearland, Texas; a brother, Edgar (Linda) Lormand of Kinder; a sister, Glenda (Pete) Baldwin of Austin, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Mary Lormand; and a sister, Shirley Ann Nevils.

The family of Baron James Casiano are mourning the loss of their loved one who earned his wings on Dec. 20, 2013, while surrounded by his loved ones.

Baron was born in Crowley to Willie and Heather Miller Casiano on July 16, 1999.  Baron liked listening to music, especially Gospel music and enjoyed going to church. He loved playing with his brothers and sisters. Baron had a special love for all of his caregivers.

Baron is survived by his parents, Willie and Heather Miller Casiano; three brothers, Joshua Casiano, Isaac Casiano and Koben Casiano, all of Evangeline; two sisters, Hannah Casiano and Leah Casiano, both of Evangeline; his maternal grandparents, Sharon and Harry Miller of Evangeline; his paternal grandparent, Judy Deshotel of Evangeline; and his paternal great-grandparent, Frank Foster of Jennings.

Baron James now rests in Heaven with his family who preceded him in death: two brothers, Gavin Charles Casiano and Caleb Luke Casiano; and his grandfather, Charlie Casiano.

Carrying Baron to his eternal resting place will be Jonathan Guidry, Codey Broussard, Donnie Miller and Harold Clement. Honorary pallbearers will be Shane May, Joshua Casiano, Billy Landry, Isaac Casiano and Mike Gary.

Adam was born in Cow Island on April 22, 1931, to the late Adam Touchet Sr. and the late Lillia Touchet.

Adam died on Dec. 23, 2013, at Camelot Brookside. He was a retired carpenter and enjoyed his work. He loved tending to his animals and planting a garden every year. Adam was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

He was survived by his loving wife, Barbara Clement Touchet; three sons, Adam “Butch” (Romona) Touchet of Jennings, Cliff (Cherie) Touchet of Iota and Shannon Paul (Jessica) Touchet of Welsh; two daughters, Elizabeth “Liz” (Cedric) Gary and Christine (Casey) Trahan, both of Jennings; two brothers, Earl “Fat” (Marie) Touchet of Jennings and Russell (Brenda) Touchet of Pine Island; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Adam was welcomed into Heaven by the family whom preceded him in death: his parents, Adam Sr. and Lillia Touchet; and one brother, John Touchet.

Carrying Adam to his eternal resting place will be Nolan Gary, Bradley Meyers, Cedric Gary, Casey Trahan, Wedley Courville, Blaze Courville and Jacob Pitre. Honorary pallbearers are Adam “Butch” Touchet and Cliff Touchet.

Mr. Carter entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Dec. 22, in a Baton Rouge hospital.

Robert was born in Alvin, Texas, and he lived in Lake Arthur most of his life. He was employed by the Jennings Housing Authority in the maintenance deptartment.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jackie Marie Carter of Lake Arthur; two daughters, Shawn and LaDorian Carter of Lake Arthur; two sons, Randall Carter of Lake Arthur and Jacarte Malveaux of Jennings; four brothers, Roger (Gwen) Carter of Missouri City, Texas, Raymond (Brenda) Carter, Ronnie (Laura) Carter of Brenhan, Texas, and Rodney(Laura) Carter of Virginia; two sisters, Sharon (Titan) Carter of Hitchcock, Texas, and Early Syvette Pierce of Arlington, Texas; one stepsister and stepbrother, Tanyanekia (John) Perkins and Patrick Robinson of Lake Arthur; and his friend, Joann Malveaux of Jennings; and memories cherished by a great mother-in-law, Mrs. Erma Thomas of Lake Arthur, nine grandchildren, and one godchild.

He was preceeded in death by his son, Robert B. Carter III; his mother, Jennie Mae Chaney; and his stepmother.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings today, Friday, Dec. 27, from 12-9 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday, Dec. 28, at 8 a.m. until the time of her services.

Mary was born in Brunswick, Ga., on Nov. 12, 1946. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to the care of her family and raised three beautiful daughters. She loved watching movies and caring for her three dogs, Peanut, Butch and Chico. She was the most kind and caring person in the world.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Amoson Joseph Marcantel Jr. of Longville; three daughters, Sonya Minor of Hawaii and Beverly Minor and Virginia Minor, both of Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Sandra (Winston) Guillory of Jennings and Christina Fontenot of Hathaway; her father-in-law, Terry Gatte of Evangeline; her mother-in-law, Marjorie Gatte of Evangeline; and nine precious grandchildren.

The family and friends of Kenneth W. Deshotel are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life on Dec. 27, 2013, at the age of 65.

Funeral services will be held at New Life Tabernacle located at 114 North Church Street in Jennings on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at 10 a.m. with Brother Carol Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Evangeline.

The Deshotel family requests visitation to be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings today, Sunday, Dec. 29 from 5-10 p.m. Visiting hours will resume on Monday at 8 a.m. at the New Life Tabernacle Church until his services at 10 a.m.

Kenneth was born in Iota to the late Harry Deshotel and the late Mary Tupper Deshotel on Nov. 20, 1948. He worked for Bloom Tree Service for a number of years. He loved the outdoors and traveling. He was a devoted member of New Life Tabernacle Church and enjoyed going to the services there. Kenneth was a kind-hearted person and always loved to help people as much as he could. He loved eating and visiting with his many friends. He enjoyed telling stories about his life and good times he experienced. No matter where he was, he wanted to cook sausage on a stick for everyone. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his granddaughters who were his life.

Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie Babb Deshotel of Evangeline; one son, Kenneth “Porky” (Frances Richard) Deshotel II, also of Evangeline; one daughter, Robin R. Deshotel of Evangeline; a brother, Curtis (Cary Ann) Deshotel of Hayes; two sisters, Mary Ann (Harold) Richard of Elton and Louise Istre of Jennings; and the two loves of his life, his granddaughters, Patricia Ann Deshotel and Emily Elizabeth Deshotel, both of Evangeline.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his beloved family: his parents, Harry and Mary Tupper Deshotel; and one sister, Barbara Nell Trahan.

Carrying Kenneth to his eternal resting place in St. Joseph Cemetery in Evangeline will be Joey Edalgo, Vincent Daigle, Elisha Touchet, David Chapman, Shawn Hebert, Craig Daigle, Jamie Deshotel and Jerry Kilmer. Honorary pallbearer will be Reverend Lawrence Daigle.

Paul Boudreaux

Paul Boudreaux was born on June 15, 1939, to the late Louis and Edolia Boudreaux. He departed his life on Dec. 27, 2013.

His funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Jennings on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held on Saturday in the church from 9-11 a.m. Burial will be in OLPH Catholic Church under the direction of Combre Funeral Home.

Paul accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Jennings. He attended Ward Elementary School. Paul worked for Jennings Rice Mill and also SBA Shipyard. Some of his hobbies included fishing and hunting throughout his childhood and adult life. He loved to sing and play the harmonica. He brought joy and excitement to all those who heard him play. He was a joker at heart, and whenever he spoke there were always laughter and smiles that he brought to our hearts. He will never be forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his father; his mother; two brothers; one brother-in-law; and two sisters.

Paul will be forever cherished by his companion, Claudette Guillory; his daughter, Ashley Guillory; Paul Guillory; and four grandchildren, all of San Francisco, Calif.; his aunt, Lucy Lewis of Jennings; his goddaughter, Angela Williams of Abbeville; his sister-in-law, Dora Phene Boudreaux; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

LAKE ARTHUR – Funeral services for Mr. Ronald Clifton Abshire, 65, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, in Miguez Funeral Home of Lake Arthur with Rev. Michael Williams officiating.

Burial will be in Andrus Cove Cemetery.

Funeral home visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. today, Friday, and will resume from 8 a.m. Saturday until the time of services.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today, Friday, in the funeral home chapel.

Mr. Abshire died at 8:33 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at his residence in Lake Arthur.

Mr. Abshire was a three-year resident of Lake Arthur, moving there from Lake Charles. He was a retired glazer from Service Glass and Door of Lake Charles and he loved spending time with his grandchildren, going to the beach, fishing, riding his scooter and going to flea markets.

Survivors include two daughters, Faline (Marcus) Daniels of Lake Arthur, Karly (Kelley) Woods of Boerne, Texas; one son, Steven (Wendy) Nolan of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Carolyn (Byron) Parker of Lake Arthur, Evelyn (Tony) Bertrand of Lake Arthur and Pamela (JR) Gary of Lake Charles; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Abshire was preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene Vincent Abshire; and two brothers, Leonard and Tommy Abshire.

Ellen Marie Chapman, 61, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014.

She resided in Jennings and was born in Baton Rouge on Dec. 19, 1952, to the late Thomas Franklin Clayton and Hazel Marie Brogdon Clayton.

She was an accomplished business owner in Jennings. She loved the simple things in life like fishing, caring for her chihuahuas and quilt-making.

Ellen is survived by her sons, Douglas Anderson Jr. and Jacob Anderson; her daughter, Ta’tesha Beard; her grandchildren, Daniel, Joshua, Kayla, Shannon, Brittney, Brooke and Jayce; her great-grandchildren, Max and Blayson; and her stepmother, Ann Mae Clayton.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Hazel Marie Hopkins.

Viewing will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd. in Baton Rouge today, Friday, Jan. 3, from 5-7 p.m. and will continue from 12 p.m. until the religious service on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Ruston Charles Reed

It is with great sadness that the family of Ruston Charles Reed announces his passing from this life on Dec. 31, 2013, at the age of 22.

Funeral services to honor Ruston’s life will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at 10 a.m. with Deacon Mike Tramel officiating. Burial will follow in Parsley Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home today, Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, from 3:30-9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday, Jan. 6 at 8 a.m. until the time of his services.

He was born in Jennings to Charles W. and Tessie LeBeouf Reed on July 9, 1991. He loved playing his games and being with his friends. Ruston especially loved his two sons and enjoyed spending time with them.

Ruston leaves behind to cherish his memories: his parents, Charles W. and Tessie LeBeouf Reed of Jennings; his fiancee’, Shandala Duhon of Lake Arthur; two sons, Hayden Duhon and Brayden Reed, both of Lake Arthur; his paternal grandparents, Donald Crochet and Patsy Crochet, both of Jennings; his maternal grandparent, Janie LeBlue of Evangeline; one brother, Charles (Heather) Kratzer of Jennings; seven sisters, Melanie Reed, Megan Reed, Gabrielle Reed, Julie Reed, Grace Reed, Kimber Reed and Carley Reed, all of Jennings; three aunts, Darla LeBeouf of Estherwood, Christina Impastato of Lake Charles and Rebekah LeBlue of Lafayette; two uncles, Christopher Impastato and Jason LeBeouf, both of Crowley; and his only niece, Alyssa Vincent.

Ruston was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ruston LeBeouf Jr.; and one aunt, Micah LeBeouf.

Carrying Ruston to his eternal resting place will be Christopher Impastato, Lee Fontenot Jr., Charles Kratzer, Brent Carpenter, Brock Duhon and Kade Marler.

Funeral services for Toby Jane LeJeune, 61, of Jennings, will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at 1 p.m. with Deacon Mike Tramel officiating.  Visitation with family and friends of Toby will be held today, Sunday, Jan. 5 from 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday at 8 a.m. until the time of her services. Toby will be laid to rest in Doucet Cemetery.

Toby Jane was born in Jennings on May 10, 1952, to the late Verna Gary Louviere and the late Louis Louviere. She was called to her Heavenly Father on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, while in comfort of her home surrounded by her family she loved so dearly. Toby was a retired beautician. She enjoyed playing softball and being outdoors. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. She enjoyed watching them grow up. Her family was her life.

Toby is survived by one daughter, Jessica L. (Jubal) Guidry of Lake Arthur; her three sons, Cody (Lori) LeJeune of Lafayette, Clifford “Joey” (Sue) LeJeune Jr. of Hackberry and Christopher (Raissa) LeJeune of Elton; three sisters, Lorita Breaux of Hathaway, Janet Daigle of Jennings and Becky (Ernie) Istre of Estherwood. Toby also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Toby was welcomed into Heaven by the family who preceded her in death: her parents, Louis and Verna Louviere; her husband, Clifford LeJeune; and two brothers, Elmer and Bobby Louviere.

Carrying her to her eternal resting place will be Cody LeJeune, Joey LeJeune, Christopher LeJeune, Keegan LeJeune, Hoyt LeJeune and Heath Breaux. Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse LeJeune, Kaiden LeJeune and Zane LeJeune.

Beverly Ann DeVilbiss Crider

ROANOKE – Funeral services for Mrs. Beverly Ann DeVilbiss Crider, 80, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, in the Roanoke Baptist Church with Rev. Darrell Hieronymus officiating.

Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Welsh under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings.

Visitation will be held at the church from 5-9 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6 and will resume at 8 a.m. Tuesday until time of services.

Mrs. Crider died at 5:05 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, in Golden Age Nursing Home of Welsh.

Mrs. Crider was a lifelong resident of Welsh and was a retired registered nurse. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Roanoke which she and her late husband “Bob” started in their living room. She taught Bible study at Golden Age for the last four years. She worked at Jennings American Legion Hospital, Welsh General Hospital and Golden Age Nursing Home.

Survivors include one daughter, Ruth Cardoza of Roanoke; two sons, Lee Crider of Dry Creek and Jimmy Crider of San Jose, Calif.; one sister, Roynell DeVilbiss Troutman of Marianna, Fla.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Crider was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Norman and Gweyneth Ridley DeVilbiss; her husband, Mr. Robert “Bob” Crider; one son, Johnny Crider; her brother, Allen “Jerry” DeVilbiss; and her sister, Mary Gwen Bell.

The family requests memorials be made to the Roanoke Baptist Church or the Dry Creek Baptist Camp.
